Port McNicoll Home Re-Dedicated with New Partner Family

Port McNicoll Dedication

Port McNicoll, ON - Members of the North Simcoe Chapter of Habitat for Humanity Ontario Gateway North, local dignitaries, community members and Habitat for Humanity Ontario Gateway North staff gathered at 524 Alberta St. on Saturday, September 29, to celebrate the Ramsbottom family and their journey into homeownership.

The ceremony was special in a few ways, as the home was originally built by Habitat in 2006. The first partner family sold the house back to Habitat for Humanity in 2015. Renovations to update the home were completed through 2016, including the construction of a fence around the property. The house was then sold to Sarah and David Ramsbottom in 2017. Sarah, David and their two children are happy to have a home of their own and both worked very hard to achieve the 500 hours of sweat equity, as part of their partnership with Habitat for Humanity.

People living in Habitat homes not only help to build their own houses, they also pay affordable mortgages. Habitat for Humanity’s innovative approach helps working families on a new path to better, affordable living conditions that lead to improved health and stronger childhood development. Access to affordable home ownership can help decrease a family’s reliance on food banks and allow them to move out of social housing which frees up space for those on waiting lists.

“We are thrilled to partner with Ramsbottoms and help them on their homeownership journey,” said Kimberley Woodcock, CEO of Habitat for Humanity Ontario Gateway North. “We are grateful for the community support and the many volunteers whose commitment to Habitat’s mission has helped us empower families through affordable homeownership. Habitat homes provide families with the strength, stability and independence they need to build a better life.”
