Goldenberg Build Day

On Saturday, October 21 the Goldenberg family and their friends spent the day building with Habitat in Orillia. The family, who own a cottage nearby, raised money toward the build and then got to work helping to install ICF foundation at the Habitat buildsite (499 Bay Street).
"To have these community members and their friends from Toronto and elsewhere spend a Saturday with Habitat to help build these homes is inspirational," said Britta Gerwin, Director of Development and Communications for Habitat OGN. "We hope they had fun and made memories which will last them a lifetime. We also hope they take pride in knowing their efforts will result in two hardworking local families become first-time homeowners."
Habitat homes are built with contributions of building materials, goods and volunteer labour from businesses, along with financial donations from individuals, groups and corporations. The Habitat for Humanity model ensures that low-income families own their homes and no longer rely on social housing subsidies. By owning their homes, Habitat for Humanity families contribute annually to the economic base through property taxes – transforming a substantial tax burden into a positive community impact.
